Jordan Spieth leads after three rounds at PGA Travelers Championship”

Jordan Spieth remains out in front at the halfway stage of the Travelers Championship but Rory McIlroy tumbled down the leaderboard after a three-over 73 at TPC River Highlands in CT.

Spieth's 4-under third round yesterday gave him a 1-shot lead over Boo Weekley but to get it he had to birdie three of the final four holes after bogeying the par-5 13th and par-4 14th, an unusual misstep for golf's newest wunderkind.

After a 4-under-par round of 66 on Saturday pushed him to 12 under for the tournament, Spieth can become the first Travelers champion to lead all four rounds since Peter Jacobsen in 2003.

Boo Weekley worked his way up the leaderboard after shooting a 65 to finish at 11 under.

Spieth, who began the day one shot ahead after a first-round 63, started on the back nine.

The cut fell at even-par 140, with Rory McIlroy (73) making it on the number after bogeying the final hole, where his approach shot came up short of the green after his back foot slipped during his downswing.

LPGA: Sung Hyun Park almost matched the course record with an 8-under 63 on Friday to take the first-round lead in the NW Arkansas Championship.

But Spieth closed the front nine with a bogey for the second time in three days and seconds later Charley Hoffman completed an eagle-birdie-birdie run by sinking a five-foot birdie putt at 15 to seize the lead by one at 10-under. She had her lowest score on the LPGA Tour and matched her professional best set in the 2012 Australian Ladies Masters. They each shot 66.

Merritt, who missed four straight cuts with a tie for 11th in the Sanderson Farms Championship his top finish, had three birdies and one bogey. Nope. Facing this hard long bunker shot for his second at the par-4 15th, Spieth almost jarred it for eagle.

Paul Broadhurst shot a 9-under 63 for a two-stroke lead in theAmerican Family Insurance Open in Madison, Wisconsin.

On No. 18 Spieth regained sole possession of the lead with this stellar 20-foot putt. He birdied the par-3 No. 16 with the help of a tee shot that landed less than six feet from the hole. Weekley hasn't won on the PGA Tour since Colonial in 2013, his last top 10 on Tour is a solo fifth at the 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open and he doesn't have a top 25 on the circuit this season.

"I was on the upslope into the wind, so it was as easy as that shot could get", Spieth said.

"I think I said the same thing at the John Deere in 2015".

"I played really well the beginning of this year, then I didn't really play well at the last championship, kind of lost confidence a little bit", Ryu said. "So we've got a tough gig ahead".

Stricker is making his first start in his hometown event after turning 50 in February. The consistent Englishman shot a four-under 66, despite being one over through his first seven holes.

Day also missed the cut at the U.S. Open.
