Marines suffer severe burns in explosion on USA base

Marines suffer severe burns in explosion on USA base”

The Marine Corps has greenlighted the return of F-35B Joint Strike Fighters to the skies over Arizona, following a brief grounding caused by computer glitches.

211, an F-35B squadron with 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing based at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, resumed flight operations June 23.

Marine Corps Air Station Yuma in Arizona grounded all F-35s this past week, but that suspension has now been lifted as of Friday, Defense News reports.

Problems continue to plague the F-35 program, which has become the most expensive defense project in USA history.

The jets from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 arrived at Kadena Air Base in central Okinawa to become familiar with the airfield, a Marine Corps statement said. According to a corresponding statement sent by the F-35 Joint Program Office, the JPO isolated the root cause and generated a software fix.

The Marine Corps announced Thursday that it would "temporarily suspend" flight operations for 14 F-35B fighters due to the software issues.

Maj. Gen. Mark Wise, the commanding general of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, made the decision to suspend flight operations after "anomalies" were discovered in a recent Autonomic Logistics Information System software upgrade, the U.S. Marine Corps said in a statement. The JPO with LM will continue to monitor and improve ALIS performance to ensure our warfighters have the required F-35 air systems to operate safely and effectively.

"The F-35B is a highly capable aircraft with an excellent test and developmental safety record", Stahl added.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with them", the statement read. John McCain, who chairs the Senate Committee on Armed Services and has been a long-time critic of the F-35, said the suspension was concerning.
