McEnroe says Williams would be ranked 'like 700' on men's tour

McEnroe says Williams would be ranked 'like 700' on men's tour”

"If she played the men's circuit she'd be like 700 in the world", McEnroe told NPR in response to a question about why he doesn't call Serena the best player, period. President Donald Trump had mentioned that he wanted the over-the-top player face Serena; McEnroe believes someone else should probably play her. Get the app and get the game. "You know, why say female player?"

He further went on to say that now there is no woman player that is better than her male counterpart.

Stop me if you have heard this before, but former tennis star John McEnroe is in the press again, and it's not for a good reason.

Jones, speaking on 3AW, made the comment after John McEnroe aired his opinion on Williams - saying that while she could beat some men on the circuit, she would still be ranked about 700 in the world.

McEnroe has praised Williams in the past.

McEnroe: Yeah. That doesn't mean I don't think Serena is an incredible player. And on a given day, Serena could beat some players.

While promoting his new memoir "But Seriously", McEnroe said that Williams is incredibly strong mentally but in the men's circuit, her story would be entirely different. He said he didn't really want to do it, but thought he had a good chance at beating her. "She could overcome some situations where players would choke because she's been in it so many times, so many situations at Wimbledon, The US Open, etc", he added. Rather than administering a slight of any kind, he was simply placing his adulation for Serena's ability in the context of the current sports world.
