PM Narendra Modi arrives at United States; meets with top American CEOs”

Heaping praise on India's military prowess, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the country can defend itself and has convinced the world that the menace of terrorism needs to be eliminated.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in United States on Sunday for a two-day visit aimed at boosting bilateral ties, was given a warm welcome by officials from the Indian and the USA embassies as soon as he touched down at the Joint Base Andrews Air Force base. He said there were proposals to hold bigger events this time also but he specifically wanted to meet the leaders who worked hard to organise the previous events during his visits to the US.

As Modi's motorcade pulled up in front of the hotel where he will be staying during his three-day visit, the crowd of Indians gathered outside and standing behind a barricade burst into applause and started chanting "Modi, Modi". Speaking at a community reception at the Ritz Carlton in Tysons Corner, Virginia, Modi said:"When India talked of terrorism 20 years back, many in the world said it was a law and order problem and didn't understand it". USA lawmakers have urged their President to insist on India eliminating certain trade and investment barriers. "This is good governance", Modi said. Modi, in his almost 50-minute address in Hindi to the diaspora, outlined the achievements of his government in the past three years, including introduction of social benefits like the direct benefit transfer scheme, subsidy removal, opening of bank accounts, technological advancement in areas ranging from space to agriculture and opening a number of sectors to foreign investment.

"Sushma Ji deserves credit for this", Modi said. "The right to life and liberty, a fundamental right of our Constitution, that is being openly violated by this government and BJP governments all over the country in various states.Under his patronage, the elementary fundamental rights which are the essence of democracy are being violated", he said.

Modi said with the help of technology his government has developing a system where honesty is the common practice.

"The results are there for all to see", he said. He also noted that infrastructure is essential for sustainable development.

"Old partnerships, new friendships", tweeted Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Gopal Baglay. "The media was completely rendered useless", the prime minister said.

Addressing the nation through his 33rd "Mann Ki Baat" broadcast, the Prime Minister also highlighted India's achievements in space science, referring to the recent launch of 30 nano satellites with the "Cartosat-2 Series Satellite" by the Indian Space Research Organisation.
