President Trump: Congress not 'that far off' from passing health care overhaul

President Trump: Congress not 'that far off' from passing health care overhaul”

He supports the expansion of health savings accounts and giving Americans more freedom in choosing plans that are right for them.

Clinton wrote the strong words on Twitter as she retweeted a study by the Center for American Progress that said the health care bill now making its way through the Senate could lead to as many as 28,000 additional deaths in 2026.

Dean Heller says he opposes the GOP bill scuttling much of the Obama health care law, complicating the effort by party leaders to guide the measure through the Senate.

"I am very supportive of the Senate #Healthcarebill".

"It would be so great if the Democrats and Republicans could get together, wrap their arms around it and come up with something that everybody's happy with", the president said.

Besides the five who've announced outright opposition, several other GOP senators - conservatives and moderates - have declined to commit to the new overhaul.

The bill would cut and redesign the Medicaid program for low-income and disabled people, and erase taxes on higher earners and the medical industry that helped pay for the roughly 20 million Americans covered by Obama's law.

This is just a note about the Senate health care bill.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, which represents health insurers covering more than 100 million people in the US, said it will continue to push for a replacement for Obamacare's coverage requirement as well.

The Senate legislation would phase out extra federal money Nevada and 30 other states receive for expanding Medicaid to additional low earners. That program is jointly funded by the states and the federal government.

"In this form, I will not support it", Heller said at a news conference with Republican Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval. Even President Trump - who is single-mindedly obsessed with repealing Obamacare - said that the new bill should be less "mean" than the AHCA.

McConnell wants the bill passed next week, still with no public hearings or opportunities for health care experts or advocates to have a say.

Heller's announcement was fairly predictable, because he is one of the most vulnerable GOP senators in the 2018 elections and his support of a bill that appears to be about as popular with the American people as athlete's foot wouldn't exactly give his campaign a boost.

ACA: Insurers could charge older people up to 3 times more than younger people. However, "as now drafted, this bill does not do almost enough to lower premiums".

Flake is politically popular but faces a primary challenge from a conservative. "It's so easy. But we won't get one Democrat vote, not one".

"It's not that they're opposed", he said. Ted Cruz of Texas, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Mike Lee of Utah and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin. Some lawmakers are already raising concerns that the bill could aggravate the problem of healthy people going without insurance, driving up costs for everyone else.
