Republican senator has 'very serious' concerns on U.S. health-care bill

Republican senator has 'very serious' concerns on U.S. health-care bill”

President Donald Trump promised to repeal and replace the health care law Republicans deride as "Obamacare".

On Friday, Sanders tweeted that thousands would die if the Senate passed its version of the health care bill as it now exists.

Asked if he'll work to stop a health care vote in the next week, Johnson demurred. "It's hard for me to see the bill passing this week", she added. Mike Lee and Texas Sen.

President Donald Trump is bemoaning what he calls "the level of hostility" that he says has stymied bipartisanship in Washington. He can afford to lose the support of only two Republicans in the face of unanimous Democratic opposition.

Former US President Barack Obama has slammed the Republican Party's new healthcare bill, which he said would transfer wealth from the poor to the rich. And the president called Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren "somebody that's just got a lot of hatred".

Health reform is needed, but we must maintain the current law's gains in patient protections.

All appear ready to negotiate changes before the expected vote ahead of the week-long congressional recess around the July 4th holiday celebrating the U.S.'s 18th century independence from England.

Johnson's Democratic counterpart representing Wisconsin, Sen.

Trump, in an interview that aired Sunday on Fox News, said, "I think we're going to get there", but acknowledged the complicated road in the coming days to "picking a plan that everybody is going to like". And if it were the greatest bill ever proposed in mankind, we wouldn't get a vote and that's a awful thing.

Johnson, elected in 2010 running against Obamacare, also said on NBC's "Meet The Press" program that the debate on revising health care has not been based on facts. So I've been encouraging leadership, the White House, anybody I can talk to for quite some time, let's not rush this process.

He told ABC's "This Week" the GOP has "at best, a 50-50 chance". "They want to get some points, I think they'll get some points".

The Senate bill calls for phasing out the enhanced federal support for the expansion by 2024.

Ron Johnson, R-Wis., one of the five senators opposing the bill.

Republicans held 52 seats in the 100-member chamber, which means it can not afford losing more than three of its votes.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said seven to eight other senators including herself were troubled by provisions that she believes could cut Medicaid even more than the House version. Both our senators are included in the elite 13 GOP senators working in complete secrecy to produce this bill.

Unless those holdouts can be swayed, their numbers are more than enough to torpedo the measure developed in private by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and deliver a bitter defeat for the president.
