Senate GOP health care bill vote: The whip count

Senate GOP health care bill vote: The whip count”

Senate Republican leaders unveiled the legislation yesterday.

Price repeatedly railed against Obamacare, and at one point in the interview cited the 28 million uninsured people under the existing law as problematic. A lie is a lie.

The U.S. House of Representatives' version of the Obamcare repeal bill includes a provision in which customers must maintain coverage or pay more, but Democrats argued that conflicted with Republican President Donald Trump's promise to keep the guaranteed insurance provision of Obamacare.

Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell wants to hold a vote on the bill before the July 4th recess, most likely next Thursday.

The CBO analysis of the House-passed American Health Care Act projected 23 million more people would be uninsured by 2026 than today and would cut the deficit by $119 billion over the same period. "I want to see a bill with heart", he added.

"It's certainly going to be very hard", Sen.

But those "circumstances" have been created by the GOP itself.

"The working poor, disabled and elderly appear to shoulder the burden in this latest version of Congress' health care rewrite", Edwards said.

The bill also rolls back tax increases that helped fund Obamacare, in a move that would largely benefit high-income earners and some businesses. Seventy-four percent of those polled, meanwhile, said they have a favorable opinion of Medicaid.

"They've promised too much".

And a number of Republican governors have joined doctors, hospitals, and patient advocacy groups in opposing the bill, in part because of its cuts to Medicaid. "It would be so great if Democrats and Republicans could get together, wrap their arms around it, and come up with something that everybody's happy with".

HORSLEY: But the Senate bill preserves another, more popular piece of Obamacare, the requirement that insurance companies cover everyone, even those with pre-existing conditions. But they won't, because the tax cuts are the thing that matters to them.

MARTIN: So what does the Senate bill do? Considerably more generous than the house. This is only a "compromise" between two very right-wing policies.

A White House official said the Trump has pushed his team to stay involved and plans to flex his negotiating muscle, the official said. And even privately, through our own individual lobbying efforts or through trade associations, there have been no major forums by which you could offer this, which, for those of us that are observers of this - we're saying, well, is there really any interest in that, or is it just about reducing the amount of money being spent, regardless of the consequences?

Louisiana's senators haven't taken a public position on the Senate proposal. "He will tell you from the health care experience that he's talked to nearly every single member".

Five Republican senators are opposed to the new health care bill as written, demanding changes to the legislation before they can support it: Sen.

Heller signaled doubts about the proposal on Friday, which is a step in the right direction. "These bills aren't going to fix the problem".

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, now in the center of a national debate about a U.S. Senate bill to remake the American health care system, on Sunday urged fellow Senate Republicans to slow the blistering pace at which some want to reach a vote on the measure.
