Senator Ron Johnson: 'We should not be voting on [AHCA] next week'

"We've a very good plan", Trump said in an interview broadcast Sunday.

Johnson, one of five GOP senators who has announced opposition to the bill as written, said there's not "enough time" to review and improve it before a planned vote Thursday - just one week after the secretly drafted bill was made public.

We're stuck in a very odd conversation, but no one should be confused about reality.

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks before signing the “VA Accountability Act” in the East Room of the White House in Washington, U.S., June 23, 2017.

For Republicans, reducing spending on Medicaid by more than $800 billion is not a "cut" and wouldn't adversely affect any of the program's beneficiaries.

The comments are a blunt - but defensible - description of the Senate bill, which maintains some of the structure of President Obama's signature Affordable Care Act as it relates to the individual insurance market, and many of its regulations governing health care in general.

"It's hard for me to see the bill passing this week", Collins said. "But I think we're going to get it".

Democrats hope to use those rules to erase some language from the bill, including a section barring consumers from using the measure's health care tax credits to buy insurance that covers abortions. "It is obstruction", Trump said, as he singled out top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer for attack: "I saw Senator Schumer criticising the bill a couple weeks ago and he had no idea what was in the bill".

When Senate Republicans released their revision of the bill last week after writing it in secret, Obama thought the same thing.

At least two Republican senators on Sunday said that goal may prove too ambitious. "They are more oriented towards lower income people", PA Senator Pat Toomey said.

He was then asked by the Fox News reporter about Elizabeth Warren, to which Trump replied: 'I think she's a hopeless case, I call her Pocahontas and that's an insult to Pocahontas. "We have a few people that are - I think you could say modestly - they're not standing on the rooftops and screaming, they want to get some points".

Some Senate Republicans have been frustrated by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's decision to craft the bill largely behind closed doors, and have also expressed concern that one week is hardly enough time to study a 142-page bill - let alone the CBO report.

SENATE: The bill would repeal most Obamacare taxes beginning after December 31, 2016, including the 3.8 percent net investment income tax on wealthy Americans.

SENATE: The legislation would maintain the popular Obamacare provision that young adults be allowed to stay on their parents' health insurance until age 26. And the Democrats have said none of them will support this.

Governors now face the challenge of deciding whether to reduce medical services, limit who can enrol in health-insurance safety net, or make cuts to other state programmes such as education or transportation.

He told ABC's This Week that the Republicans have "at best, a 50-50 chance". "No way", Johnson said on NBC's Meet the Press.
