Special counsel Mueller probing Donald Trump for possible obstruction of justice

Special counsel Mueller probing Donald Trump for possible obstruction of justice”

The Post and The New York Times both reported that Mueller was seeking interviews with three Trump administration officials who weren't involved in Trump's campaign: Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence; Michael Rogers, the head of the National Security Agency; and Richard Ledgett, the former NSA deputy director. "Nice." In a subsequent tweet, he characterized the investigation as part of "the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history".

"We may have our differences, but we do well in times like these to remember that everyone who serves in our nation's capital is here because above all they love our country", Trump said at the White House.

The hearing comes days after former FBI Director James Comey testified about the agency's investigation of Russia's role in last year's presidential election and possible ties to President Donald Trump's campaign, along with his relationship with Trump in the weeks before his firing.

The White House has not invoked executive privilege and Sessions, in a novel legal argument, said he was trying to protect Trump in case the president wanted to invoke the privilege at some later point. On Friday, the President tweeted he was under "investigation", which he called a "witch hunt" in another tweet. Sad!" he wrote. "Despite the phony Witch Hunt going on in America, the economic & jobs numbers are great.

Though Trump was told by Comey on multiple occasions that he was not under investigation by the FBI, the president reportedly became the focus of Mueller's investigation after firing Comey.

In a tweet early Thursday, Trump said: "They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story".

Friday's tweets are the latest in a week of angry social media responses by the president over a report by The Washington Post that Mueller was looking into whether Trump obstructed justice. Trump cited the memo in firing Comey.

Quoting officials, the newspaper said one event of interest to Mueller is an exchange on March 22, when Coats told associates that Trump had asked him to intervene with Comey to get him to back off the focus on Trump's former national security advisor Mike Flynn as part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe of the Russian Federation affair.
