Trump declines to host Ramadan dinner, breaking 20-yr White House tradition

Trump declines to host Ramadan dinner, breaking 20-yr White House tradition”

"This holiday marks the culmination of Ramadan, a month in which many experience meaning and inspiration in acts of fasting, prayer, and charity".

Many countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Syria, Iraq, Egypt and others are celebrating Eid al-Fitr on Sunday. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam.

Ramadan takes place in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

As per this tradition, a new month is sighted on 29th of the prevailing month.

Varying geographical and weather conditions meant that people in different locations can not see the appearance of the crescent the same day, making Muslims around the world fast on different days. Jamil Khan says, "In the Devon Avenue area it is not just the Muslim shops and eateries that offer Iftar delicacies but nearly every business enterprise runs an Eid special".

The announcements were made following the sighting of the moon of Shawwal, the month following Ramzan. The Government of India is likely to declare Eid holiday on June 26, Monday.

The White House's tradition of holding an annual iftar dinner for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, began under the Clinton administration, which first hosted the event in 1996.

In a statement, Sonowal wished happiness and prosperity to the people saying that Eid-ul-Fitr symbolises amity, fraternity and harmony.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that the Shawwal moon is likely to be sighted today.

Othman Moqbel, CEO of Human Appeal, said: "It is a great honour once again for Human Appeal to be part of Celebrate Eid; the biggest gathering of Muslims in Europe".
