Uber's board votes unanimously to adopt all recommendations of Holder report

Uber's board votes unanimously to adopt all recommendations of Holder report”

The company said in a statement that "the board unanimously voted to adopt all the recommendations of the Holder Report".

The Uber board is reportedly considering asking CEO Travis Kalanick to temporarily step aside, with big changes planned for Uber's management practices.

A spokesman confirmed that the board met with Holder and Tammy Albarrán, both partners with Covington & Burling, a law firm hired to investigate complaints of widespread sexual harassment and other deep-seated cultural problems at Uber. The recommendations will be released to the employees on Tuesday.

Michael is the most high-profile executive to leave Uber as the company grapples with the findings of two reports into its workplace culture, including allegations of bullying and sexual harassment.

One of Holder's recommendations was firing Emil Michael, Kalanick's chief deputy at the company.

The ride-hailing service ran into legal troubles over its approach to local regulations and the way it handled employees and drivers. Reuters first reported that the board was going to discuss whether or not the embattled CEO, who is also facing a personal tragedy after the loss of mother, should take a three-month leave of absence.

Jan Dawson, an analyst with Jackdaw Research, said: "This week we finally learn just how committed Travis Kalanick and the rest of the senior leadership team at Uber is to meaningful cultural change".

A former engineer named Susan Fowler blogged about her experience in February and claimed the company refused to properly address sexual harassment that she and other women had reported.

In the subsequent months this has lead to 20 employees being fired, and others resigning. Uber now has nine board members and seven hold super-voting shares that give them more power.

According to the NYT report, if these moves are acted upon, it would scale back Kalanick's involvement in the company and take away his ally in the company that he built into a $70 billion entity.

Uber declined comment on that characterization.

The never-ending scandals at Uber have reached a point of reckoning and according to multiple reports, the ride-sharing startup's board will be making some major decisions today.

Kalanick, 40, has been spending time with his father in the Los Angeles area, where the board will meet, the Journal reported.
