Grenfell Tower fire caused by faulty fridge, reveals probe

Grenfell Tower fire caused by faulty fridge, reveals probe”

The news came as a number of high-rise buildings were found to be cladded with the same material suspected of having accelerated the blaze on June 14.

"We are looking at every criminal offense from manslaughter onwards, we are looking at every health and safety and fire safety offenses and we are reviewing every company at the moment involved in the building and refurbishment of Grenfell Tower", McCormack told journalists in a statement.

Consumers who believe they may have a Hotpoint fridge-freezer with model number FF175BP or FF175BG have been encouraged to call a freephone hotline on 0800 316 3826 or visit to register their details.

Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has also written to all MPs saying landlords of the 11 affected buildings have been told to inform their tenants, after which the areas could be identified to the public.

In the wake of the fire in London which killed at least 79 people, the Scottish Government asked all local authorities with high-rise blocks of more than 18 metres to clarify what material, if any, had been applied to the exterior.

Ferrier Point tower in east London was found to have cladding panels with aluminium composite made by Alucobond, it is understood.

Diarmaid Ward, Islington council's executive member for housing and development, said: "We're arranging to have the cladding, which is only on the sides of the building, removed as soon as we possibly can by a specialist contractor".

"What we haven't got is a picture of how many people might have been in there". McCormick said that documents regarding Grenfell Tower have been seized from several businesses but no one has been questioned thus far. "He saved her life, it's that simple", she says of the unidentified firefighter. But, McCormack said, "Next week we will be installing a lift to the outside of the building to assist the recovery process".

Police have searched the tower from top to bottom but she said a forensics test might not completed until next year.

The U.K. government has ordered testing of the appliance involved, a Hotpoint-brand fridge-freezer, according to the BBC.

These fridge freezer models haven't previously been subject to any product recalls, and this testing will establish whether any further action is required.

"Words can not express our sorrow at this bad tragedy".

"I know there is a fear that number is a lot higher and I do not want any hidden victims of this tragedy".

"We now have expert evidence that the fire was not started deliberately - the fire started in a fridge freezer - the make and model is a Hotpoint FF175BP", Detective Superintendent Fiona McCormack said Friday.
