Cleveland Indians place Jason Kipnis on disabled list with mild hamstring strain

Kipnis (hamstring strain) was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Sunday.

Kipnis was injured during Saturday's win over Detroit while trying to beat out a grounder in the third inning. It's unclear how much time Kipnis will miss, but it's notable that, with the All-Star break upon us, there are four days without a game, which obviously lessens the impact of the DL stint for fantasy owners.

Our models project Kipnis to hit.270 with 7 home runs, 33 runs, 28 RBI, and 6 stolen bases in 254 more plate appearances this year, assuming health is in order. In a corresponding move, the team recalled Giovanny Urshela from Triple-A Columbus. "We'll see how it progresses and so forth as we move forward".

Kipnis is batting.232 with a.693 OPS in 66 games. At Triple-A, he is batting.266 with a.695 OPS in 76 games. Gonzalez and Ramirez are both versatile enough to play multiple positions across the infield, and Ramirez entered the season as the starting third baseman.

"Now, he was able to start swinging the bat, feeling good about himself and running well and getting the extra base hits, and then this happens", Mills said. "We also have Jose Ramirez, who can play second base and has played short as well".
