Gold Cup blow for Mexico as coach banned for six matches”

He has also been fined CHF5,000 (£4,000/$5,200/€4,500) for his actions. Osorio will be banned from the sidelines during Mexico's 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign and is prohibited from conducting postgame press conferences at the tournament.

Osario was protesting against a controversial decision in Mexico's 2-1 loss to Portugal after referee Fahad Al Mirdasi failed to award his team a penalty.

Should Mexico not play deep into the Gold Cup and all six matches aren't served, Osorio will serve the rest of his suspension during Team Mexico's next official matches. If it is knocked out earlier, the balance of the suspension would be served during World Cup qualifying when it resumes in September.

In a statement, Federation Internationale de Football Association said the punishment was handed out to the Mexican manager, who was appointed in 2015, due to the "gravity" of the incident.

In addition to the ban, which is effective immediately, Osorio was warned about his conduct and fined 5,000 Swiss francs ($5,183.50), Federation Internationale de Football Association said.

"The decision, which has been duly notified today, comes into force immediately".

Mexico is in Group C with El Salvador, Curacao and Jamaica.

Mexico will begin their Gold Cup tournament against El Salvador on Sunday in San Diego and will be defending the prestigious tournament, however, playing the 12-team tournament without its coach could come to as a big blow for them.
