June Security Update Blocks Remapping Apps on T-Mobile Galaxy S8/S8+

June Security Update Blocks Remapping Apps on T-Mobile Galaxy S8/S8+”

The feature isn't fully ready yet so devs are still trying to go around the button by launching apps or doing some more remapping like the Custom Bixby Button or Bixby Button Remapper. Also, this update restricts users from using other Bixby functions with the help of the app bxActions.

We're not sure if this affects other Galaxy S8 handsets on other carriers, but for now it seems that only Galaxy S8 handsets on T-Mobile's network and the ones that received the update via the carrier are affected. Last week, We reported that T-Mobile released a new update for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices. However, if you're on T-Mobile, these apps shouldn't be able to do what they were meant to do any longer.

To recall, Samsung thwarted the first app that introduced the remapping for the Bixby button.

One of the hardware features of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the dedicated button that Samsung created to launch Bixby, its new voice assistant software. Defending itself, Samsung says that such third-party apps are security exploits waiting to take form. It's possible that Samsung could be experimenting these upcoming restrictions on the T-Mobile model before it makes its way to other models, however, that's just a speculation on our part.
