Jurgen Klopp says three-way fight for Liverpool's No 1 spot

Jurgen Klopp says three-way fight for Liverpool's No 1 spot”

"It is like it is and nothing is decided, they can all show how good they are".

It could be expected that Mignolet begins the season as No. 1, given his longevity in the role, but Karius was signed as Klopp's new first choice last summer.

"We're back here with all the team, seeing all the new faces and everybody again, it was nice to see them and start training again".

"That's very comfortable for the manager, three really good goalkeepers".

Simon Mignolet rightly earned the no.1 spot last term, but now he'll be competing with both Loris Karius and returning Welshman Danny Ward, who performed so excellently on loan for Huddersfield.

Jürgen Klopp has promised that there will be no guarantees for any of Liverpool's trio of "really good" goalkeeping options for the 2017/18 season.

"I think everybody did their work when they were away and now all together we'll prepare for the season as best we can so we can start on a high and make sure we have a good basis to get through a long season".

Liverpool, who brought in winger Mohamed Salah from Roma earlier this summer, are still awaiting the first trophy of Jurgen Klopp's tenure and will hope that this campaign will finally see them lift some silverware.

"They are at a fantastic club and a fantastic football club needs fantastic goalkeepers". And Danny played a fantastic season at Huddersfield with a big success at the end.

Meanwhile, Karius says he wants to "prove himself" this season and win back the starting spot from Mignolet.

Ward returned to Liverpool in June and claimed that Huddersfield would forever hold a "special place in his heart".

"It was a new experience for me, with a lot to learn". I feel strong mentally and also on the pitch. I want to prove myself.

Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has stressed the need for three talented custodians to cover for any injuries or suspensions and said it was "always the plan" for Ward to play elsewhere for a couple of years in order to improve his skills. "Everyone will try to be at their best".
