Report claims Virgil van Dijk wants Liverpool move”

According to Mirror, Southampton want to keep Van Dijk but he has told the club that he is prepared to leave and only wants to sign for the Merseysiders this summer.

Van Dijk has been the strongest part of Southampton's defence ever since he made his way into the club from Celtic back in the summer of 2015.

Liverpool and Chelsea are believed to be the frontrunners in the race to sign him, but now it looks like Liverpool have an upper hand. Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan have failed to put up consistent performances which makes it clear that Liverpool need a quality central defender pronto.

Jurgen Klopp though has already convinced van Dijk of our project and the expectation is that the defender, who turned 26 yesterday, will push for a Merseyside switch.

Despite the player having been evidently keen on the move, the Reds chances were looking bleaker by the day as Southampton publicly announced their desire not to sell their best players and to rid themselves of the tagline of 'selling club'.

With Liverpool still keen on signing the player if his "circumstances change" at the south coast club, a transfer request being submitted would nearly certainly see the Reds launch an all out assault on his signature.
