No details on where the ticket was sold has yet been revealed but it is expected more information will emerge on Monday.

The victor of the €29 million EuroMillions jackpot made contact with the National Lottery on Monday.

This latest win brings the total number of Irish winners to 11 since the first EuroMillions was introduced back in 2011, with the group scooping over €1 billion in prize money.

The lucky punter was the sole victor of the €28,975,630 jackpot.

The owner of the winning ticket matched the five main numbers and one "lucky star" number in the draw made on Friday, June 16.

"This is an incredible amount of money to win", he said.

"And secondly, for big wins like this, the experience we've had from players is it's nice to give them a little bit of time and space".

National Lottery chief executive Dermot Griffin said it was important that people check tickets to see if they have won.

"This is an incredible amount of money to win and we are delighted to have another victor of EuroMillions in Ireland". "We urge all of our players to check their tickets to see if their numbers have come up". "Winning this amount can be a huge shock", he added.

A National Lottery spokesperson confirmed that contact has been made by the victor, but no other details will be revealed at this stage, including the location of the winning shop.
