Tough to make a film without offending anyone: Kirti Kulhari

Tough to make a film without offending anyone: Kirti Kulhari”

Summary: State Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil on Saturday said party workers may take to the streets if upcoming Bollywood film Indu Sarkar, set during the Emergency, is found to malign its leaders.

The Central Board of Film Certification ( CBFC) Chief Pahlaj Nihalani also told Bhandarkar that Indu Sarkar won't have to get an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from anyone in the Congress or the Gandhi family.

"There is no question of showing the film to Congress or any political party, till the time the censor hasn't passed the film". Bhandarkar maintains that he has no affinity towards any political party and he also does not wish to promote any political agenda. The film stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Supriya Vinod, Kirti Kulhari, and Anupam Kher in integral roles.

Indu Sarkar is based on the Emergency era (June 25, 1975 to March 21, 1977) with lead characters of the film loosely based on late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi.

Kirti Kulhari portrays her character of both a shy poet and a bold woman who is ready to fight for people's rights in this soft yet powerful song! So, under the same roof, two individuals co-exist who have conflicting ideologies, and that's what forms the crux of the story. The Congress has already condemned the alleged false depictions in the film. First, the Congress party asks the Central Board of Film Certification for a review before the film comes under the scanner and now, the CBFC itself has asked film's director Madhur Bhandarkar to chop off 14 scenes from the film.
