Officer who killed Castile to be paid $48500 in buyout

Officer who killed Castile to be paid $48500 in buyout”

Mallory slammed Loesch and the NRA for their "narrow" representation of progressive protests and also addressed Women's March protesters' repeated calls for the gun organization to demand the United States Department of Justice indict the officer who killed Philando Castile during a traffic stop in July 2016.

According to the Associated Press, Yanez will also be paid for as many as 600 hours of "unused compensatory time".

Yanez testified he feared for his life and thought Castile was pulling out a weapon.

The uncle of a man fatally shot previous year during a Minnesota traffic stop says he's glad the officer who killed his nephew has left the police department.

The official separation agreement was released Monday after being signed by both parties, outlining the conditions and benefits Yanez is afforded under his previous contract with the department.

Castile's uncle, Clarence Castile, agrees that Yanez should no longer work as a police officer, but he doesn't regard this arrangement as justice.

A Minnesota city says it reached a voluntary separation agreement with police officer Jeronimo Yanez because it was "the most thoughtful way" to get past the tragedy of the fatal shooting of black motorist Philando Castile.

Mr Yanez, who is Latino, was acquitted of manslaughter and other charges in June.

Monday's announcement said that since he was not convicted of a crime, he would have appeal and grievance rights as a public employee in the event he was terminated.

"In order to serve the public interest and quickly assure the public that Officer Yanez will not continue as a St. Anthony police officer, the city has entered into a separation agreement that ends all employment rights", said a statement posted to the city's website. The terms weren't released. Castile had a permit for his gun. Yanez was recently acquitted. The shooting gained widespread attention after Castile's girlfriend, who was in the auto along with her then- 4-year-old daughter, livestreamed its gruesome aftermath on facebook.
