Rob Font Chokes Out Douglas Silva de Andrade For Submission Win

Rob Font was winning the exchanges on the feet against Douglas Silva de Andrade for most of their main card opening fight tonight at UFC 213 and that would eventually lead to him dropping the Brazilian late in the second round and then sinking in a fight-ending submission. Rob shifts and then leaps forward with a combination that ends in a leg kick which lands. Silva looks to work up but Font grabs a tight guillotine choke in the process and Silva is forced to submit. Font settling into half-guard now and would like to pass, but D'Silva brings him back into his full guard. He stands up but is in a guillotine. De Andrade attempted to slow Font's forward movement with leg kicks. Font, meanwhile, smartly followed up his punches with knees. As he moves in he accidently pokes Douglas in the eye.

Font entered the fight as the bantamweight division's No. 15 ranked fighter with a 13-2 and nine finishes. Rob with a nice jab. Left hand lands for D'Silva. Jab for Font. D'Silva misses an uppercut and Font punishes him with a series of hard knees to the body.

Font closed out the final two minutes of the round by landing another knee. He drops down but can not beat the horn. Low leg kick for him too. Font again went to the knee to the body. Font pressures De Andrade against the cage again and is unleashing some nasty shots. De Andrade followed up the loss with back to back wins, including a performance of the night bonus for his fight against Henry Briones. He throws a barrage of punches and knees by the cage and then takes Silva down. A big difference is that Font continually throws combinations and while Silva avoids most of the shots, a few get through here and there. In his February 2014 UFC debut, de Andrade suffered his only career loss against Zubaira Tukhugov.

Left hand from Font tags D'Silva. A hard right dropped Andrade with under two minutes left, and Font tried to follow up but wound up taking Andrade down instead, possibly giving his opponet time to recover.

By the end of the round, Font had found a home for multiple strikes and was consistently pressing the action. Silva gets out. Silva lands a big right hand and blocks a takedown. That doesn't work though and Font only cranks the choke in tighter and forces the tap out at 4.36mins of the second round! In the third round, de Andrade knocked out with an elbow and spinning back fist.
