Senate GOP Rolls Out BCRA Revision

Senate GOP Rolls Out BCRA Revision”

The idea has been controversial, as other Republicans have raised concerns that it would destabilize the marketplace and make insurance unaffordable for sick people - concerns echoed by the insurance industry this week.

"I think we're making serious progress towards coming together and unifying our conference and getting a bill that can command the support of at least 50 senators and pass into law", he said in a radio interview.

The fate of the Senate legislation to overhaul Obamacare hung in the balance Wednesday: Intra-party divisions remained, policy questions were outstanding and GOP senators had just days left to find a solution before Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was expected to bring a bill to the floor for a first procedural vote next week.

Also Thursday, Sen. Lindsey Graham of SC floated an alternative to the GOP bill that he will offer as an amendment, so long as the underlying bill reaches the floor.

The redone legislation, created to muster enough votes for passage, was expected to be released Thursday. "This bill will still throw millions of Americans off of health insurance by cutting Medicaid by almost $800 billion over the next decade". The new draft was not expected to make major changes in the cuts.

"But the one certainty of the Senate GOP health plan is that it guarantees a profit for Big Insurance".

For his part, Mr. Cruz says it's better to subsidize people with preexisting conditions with direct revenue than force healthy people to pay higher premiums.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday released a revamped Republican health care bill, and it seeks out conservative support by letting insurers sell low-premium policies with skimpy coverage. It's being billed as pro-consumer, allowing freedom of choice and potential savings for many. "This is particularly true for patients with pre-existing conditions - who would be most affected and potentially lose access to comprehensive coverage and/or have plans that were far more expensive, as premiums in the exchange market would rise much faster than under existing market conditions and insurance options dwindle". Governors also would be able to include those who receive coverage under the Medicaid expansion in their block grant applications.

Junk insurance can include several types of health care coverage: limited-benefit, specified disease plans that cover only certain diseases; supplemental plans that cover only the expenses another policy doesn't; and fixed-dollar indemnity plans that provide a specified amount per day toward medical costs.

Or how about the 42-year-olds who aren't sick now, but had health scares in the past?

The center said deductibles for the 60ish group would increase by a national average of $3,000 to $6,000. The latest version of this scheme does not change the fact that it still sells out the middle class, seniors, children and individuals with disabilities; Pennsylvania families will pay more for less health care coverage with fewer protections. Susan Collins of ME said she can not support the new plan because it still curtails the growth of federal spending for Medicaid, the insurance program for the poor.

To check what conservatives say is the "unsustainable" growth of Medicaid spending, the GOP bill lowers the rate of traditional Medicaid spending and caps how much is spent on each person.

But the legislation has been challenged by two Republican senators, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Lindsey Graham of SC, who introduced a competing plan Thursday.

However, addiction experts say those with drug problems would still be hurt by Medicaid cuts because they suffer from depression and other health problems that contribute to their addiction.

"It needs to be in the underlying text", he said. "I am withholding judgment and look forward to reading it", a second tweet said. Those funds could be used to subsidize premiums for people with health problems.
