Venus Williams advances to Wimbledon Final

Venus Williams advances to Wimbledon Final”

Pliskova, a 25-year-old from the Czech Republic, was assured of moving up two places from No. 3 when the woman who now is No. 2, Halep, was beaten in the Wimbledon quarterfinals Tuesday.

Age, however, seems to be an advantage for Williams. "I definitely will ask her". Forced to deuce in the next game, though she wrongfully decided not to challenge a bad call on what would have been an ace to 40-15, Konta hit 11 winners to 2 errors in the first six games. "It won't be a given, but I'm going to give it my all". She has been working with 1994 Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez recently. The last of her seven majors came at the same place in 2008.

Beating Konta, she improved to 131-94 her record against top-10 opponents to seal the 16th Grand Slam final, the ninth at the All England Club, the number 82 at any level.

Shortly after that, in 2011, Williams announced she had Sjogren's disease, an energy-sapping illness that also can cause joint pain.

Her resurgence began in earnest at Wimbledon a year ago, when she made it to the semifinals.

An Australian Open semi-finalist previous year, Konta was outclassed by Williams in front of a rabidly partisan centre court gallery. Serena is off the tour for the rest of this year because she is pregnant. "Before the match I wished she could do it for me, but I said "no you have to do it for yourself", Venus said.

"I'm definitely in the position I want to be in", Williams said.

The last time Venus Williams was in the finals at Wimbledon, it was 2009, and she lost to her sister, Serena.

Williams will play Spaniard Garbine Muguruza in Saturday's final.

She has tried, coach David Witt said, to "just focus on the tennis".

Crucially, Konta couldn't take her chance when she earned two break points at 4-4 as Williams served her way out of trouble.

In the second game, Venus Williams lost a few balls on his serve, and at a reception organized two breaks and went to his second final of the Helmets in 2017. That opened a run in which Williams won 12 of 13 points.

Konta had been relaxing between matches by baking muffins for her support team, but getting past Williams was never going to be a piece of cake.

With the momentum now on her side, Venus turned the screw with a break in the fourth game of the second set.

"They could have really been even more boisterous". I thought the crowd was so fair.

"I think she just showed her true qualities and why she's a five-time champion here, just a true champion that she is". "So I think experience can either work against you or for you".

Williams is making her 20th appearance at Wimbledon.

"Not my best day", Rybarikova said.

Muguruza won the point on 19 of 25 trips to the net and had a 22-8 edge in winners.

"I'll have to ask Serena for some pointers", Venus Williams said. "Serena's always in my corner".

The 23-year-old, beaten by Serena Williams in the 2015 Wimbledon final, is into her third Grand Slam title match.
