Qatar lashes out at UAE over QNA hacking”

A cyber attack on news and social media web sites in Qatar at the end of May, in which false quotes were attributed to Qatar's emir Sheik Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani, sparking a regional diplomatic conflagration, was orchestrated by neighbouring United Arab Emirates, according to U.S. intelligence. "The Washington Post story today that we actually hacked the Qataris is also not true", he told the London-based think-tank Chatham House.

Shortly after the hack, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt blocked all Qatari news sites and severed ties with Qatar. Funding, supporting, and enabling extremists from the Taliban to Hamas and Qaddafi.

The United Arab Emirates has denied it was behind the alleged hacking of Qatar's state news agency in May.

The FBI, CIA as well as Britain's NCA, all of whom have been working with Qatar to investigate the QNA hack, are yet to comment on the matter.

Qatar said those reports were fabricated and posted by hackers, though it hasn't identified the source.

The fake story posted on the Qatari News Agency's website attributed false quotes to the country's emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani, claiming the leader called Iran an "Islamic power" and praised Hamas.

"So far, we have several setbacks of regional and worldwide mediation".

Qatar - which shares its only land border with Saudi Arabia - has rejected accusations it supports terrorism, calling them "unjustified" and "baseless". But it has denied aiding jihadist groups linked to al-Qaeda or so-called Islamic State (IS). It is still unclear if the USA believes the UAE carried out the hack or hired another country to do it.

Gargash described the list on Monday as an "opening gambit" but declined to directly answer whether the quartet would insist on closing Al Jazeera, implying the quartet may soften their demands.

Mr Gargash said Qatar's neighbours were prepared to continue the boycott for months if it did not comply with the list of demands it was handed last month and agreed to worldwide monitoring.
