Zimbabwe seven wickets away from maiden Sri Lanka test win”

Zimbabwe's tour to Sri Lanka is already proving to be historic. Zimbabwe require seven wickets on the final day while Sri Lanka need 218 runs to pull off the highest successful chase in Sri Lanka and the third-highest in Tests.

Kusal Mendis was unbeaten on 60 with Angelo Mathews, who stepped down as captain after the ODI series defeat, on 17 not out.

Earlier, Sikandar Raza's maiden century lifted Zimbabwe to a respectable 377 after the visitors were tottering at 59/5 on Day 3.

Cremer also shone with the bat scoring 48 to extend the lead over the hosts before being caught behind off left-arm spinner Rangana Herath who finished the second innings with 6-133 to take his match tally to 11 wickets.

The Pakistan-born Raza steered the team's middle and lower order to help his side accumulate another 318 runs after being reduced to 59-5 on day three. In the bowling department, Graeme Cremer responded with a five-wicket haul of his own to limit Sri Lanka to 346 runs despite fifties from Upul Tharanga and Dinesh Chandimal.

Raza's 144-run partnership with Malcolm Waller (68) was the highlight of the Zimbabwe innings after the duo resumed on the overnight score of 252-6.

He took over from Mathews, who resigned after calling the one-day series loss a "hard pill to swallow".
