Elderly man dead after truck ploughs into Sydney house”

A man has died and two others have been injured after a truck collided with a auto before ploughing into two front yards in Sydney's western suburbs.

The truck was travelling along Burnett Street, Merrylands, about 12.40pm on Saturday when it collided with a Hyundai vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

A man has died and two others have been injured after a truck ran through two front yards in Merrylands, on Saturday afternoon.

The truck left the road and hit a man who was in the front yard of a nearby property, before it travelled into another front yard and hit two other men.

An elderly man was found dead at the scene by emergency services.

The truck driver, a 28-year-old Carlingford man, was taken to Westmead Hospital under police guard where he underwent mandatory blood and urine testing.

Witnesses said the truck was travelling about 80km/h and its driver was in very agitated state when he got out of the cab and residents had to hold him down until police arrived.

Officers from Holroyd Local Area Command established a crime scene and an investigation is underway by officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
