First Punisher Footage Shoots Its Way Into Comic-Con

First Punisher Footage Shoots Its Way Into Comic-Con”

The Defenders will arrive on Netflix on 18 August.

Before the Comic-Con panel for Netflix's Defenders superhero series on Friday night, Jon Bernthal, who plays the Punisher in Daredevil, showed up to promote his upcoming spin-off series.

In case you're not totally familiar with The Punisher, the character is actually named Frank Castle. We see his anguish and fury as he remembers his happier past, and then follow him on a few missions, reciting the "one batch, two batch" refrain that should be familiar to any Daredevil fan.

The clip opened with a shot of Frank Castle in happier times, teaching his young daughter to play guitar. Then it cuts to The Punisher tracking a gang of bikers, shooting a criminal - from across the U.S. border! - and then killing another man in an airport bedroom.

In an interview with EW promoting the series at San Diego Comic-Con ahead of its panel and likely reveal of footage, Bernthal hints that the series will lean heavily on that real world historical aspect of The Punisher's past. Castle meets him with an unmoved, impassive, "Nothing".

We'll have the full trailer here as soon as it's made widely available.

Let's just hope that Matt Murdock warns the rest of the Defenders about who they're fighting with (or against). So where do we pick up when Punisher begins?
