Cardinals bring up Bader as Fowler hits the DL”

Fowler was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strain in or near his left wrist.

Fowler, who was batting third in the lineup before suffering the injury, joined teammate Stephen Piscotty (groin) on the shelf.

The outfielder has consistently impressed with his bat, hitting.287 with 49 homers over 289 minor league games.

St. Louis Cardinals rookie outfielder Harrison Bader is making his first major league start Tuesday night against the Colorado Rockies. If Bader plays, he will become the sixth Cardinals player to make his major league debut this season. St. Louis is now fourth in the packed division, but they have time to make up ground.

He took a major step forward in the Arizona Fall League a year ago, batting.304 and driving in 16 runs over 21 games.

Bader has accounted for 19 home runs, 48 RBI and a.375 wOBA in 381 plate appearances at Triple-A Memphis this season. He's hitting.297 with a.517 slugging percentage to go with strong outfield defense.

The Cardinals also announced that Memphis outfielder Chad Huffman was outrighted and subsequently granted his unconditional release.

Bader has been assigned uniform No. 48.
