Didn't Ask Ram Jethmalani To Call Arun Jaitley 'Crook' Says Arvind Kejriwal”

Mr Jaitley had filed a second defamation case and sought another 10 crore as damages after the senior advocate told him that the use of the slur had Mr Kejriwal's approval.Today, in an affidavit, Mr Kejriwal told the Delhi High Court that Mr Jethmalani was "not instructed" to use objectionable words against Union Minister.

Jethmalani had used the word "crook" against the finance minister during his cross-examination before a Joint Registrar saying that he used the word on instruction from Kejriwal.

"The counsel on record had categorically stated before the Registrar that no instructions were given by the defendant to use objectionable words as used by the learned Senior Counsel (Ram Jethmalani)..."

In an affidavit filed before Justice Manmohan of Delhi High Court, Kejriwal said that: "With due respect, it is submitted that neither Kejriwal nor the counsel briefing the senior counsel Jethmalani gave instructions to the senior counsel to use the objectionable words on 17 May, 2017".

Jaitley moved an application seeking directions to expedite the recording of evidence in a time bound, fair, dignified and bonafide manner in the ongoing civil defamation case for Rs. 10 crore against Kejriwal.

Jaitley's application contends that Kejriwal's intention is to delay the conclusion of recording of evidence by posing irrelevant questions, which are created to be insulting and annoying.

The matter was adjourned to July 26. "If this is so, I would aggravate the charges against the defendant (Kejriwal)", Jaitley had said, adding that there was a limit to personal malice. Ram Jethmalani had called Jaitley a crook during cross examination in the trial of the defamation suit filed by the minister.

Jaitley, who had denied all the allegations levelled by the AAP leaders in December 2015, had claimed that they had made "false and defamatory" statements in the case involving DDCA, thereby harming his reputation.
