RJD denies rift in the 'Grand Alliance'”

Things seem set to hot up on Wednesday when legislators of both RJD and JD (U) will meet to stake out their positions.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Tuesday said that "helpless" Janata Dal (United) is asking Congress to convince Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav to resign, who has been named in an F.I.R. RJD made it clear that Tejashwi will not resign as he is only accused till now and nothing has been proven yet.

"Nitishji has perhaps never faced such an embarrassing situation in his entire political career when his integrity and clean image is being questioned", JD (U) secretary general K C Tyagi told TOI as suspense mounted in Patna about the options Nitish can use to head off the threat to his image. He said that he does not want any such member in his government who have stains of CBI cases on him. The meeting led to speculation of rift between ruling JD (U) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) over Tejashwi.

The Congress, which is the third party in the grand alliance, has been trying to stop Nitish from removing Tejashwi from the cabinet, albeit unsuccessfully. While RJD is also aware of the fact that if Nitish backs out from the alliance, RJD will be swept out of the state. Earlier last week Nitish held a meeting with RJD chief and his son, but could not reach to any conclusions following which he held meeting with Congress VP Rahul Gandhi, insisting him to take a categorical stand on corruption charges against the RJD leaders. It was meant to send out a message to all the three parties to keep the GA strong for maintaining its shine."Tyagi also said, "both the leaders share a similar view on the issue of corruption and hold that there is no place for such practices in the country". The meeting apparently failed to reassure Nitish Kumar, who reportedly called Sonia Gandhi and asked her to intervene. Reports also claimed that the RJD, a partner in the coalition government government in Bihar - is likely to withdraw Tejashwi as deputy chief minister, a day ahead of the commencement of Bihar Assembly session on Friday.
