Adobe bidding Flash farewell in 2020

Adobe bidding Flash farewell in 2020”

Given this progress, Adobe has made a decision to end the life of Flash Player.

Today, most browser vendors are integrating capabilities once provided by plugins directly into browsers and deprecating plugins. Flash apps can make use of legitimate Flash players to install and run malware that can sometimes elude antivirus software.

"Ding dong, Flash is dead".

Adobe on Tuesday said its Flash software that served up video and online games for decades will be killed off over the next three years. In fact, the company said it will continue to actively participate in the creation as a way to advance technology.

Once a key tool for accessing dynamic Internet content, Flash has come under growing scrutiny with many of its functions now folded into Web browsers through new open standards - eliminating the need to download the program separately.

How Flash zero-day attack via malvertisement works. This time, the new zero-day vulnerability was found to be being exploited by a Russian state-sponsored hacking group dubbed as 'Pawn Storm'.

Apple famously decided not to include Flash as part of its iOS for the iPhone because Steve Jobs himself hated it, despite the company's long relationship with Adobe. It is believed that these new formats are better technically and in functionality as compared to Flash.

Chrome, Google's browser has already started disabling Flash from its browser and Firefox also plans to start removing the software from its sites by August and the process will end by default in 2019.

Flash and Shockwave over time, were adopted by the community, in some cases formed the basis for open standards, and became an essential part of the web. Adobe has partnered with Microsoft, Google, Mozilla, Apple, and many others, to ensure that the open web could meet and exceed the experiences that Flash has traditionally provided.

"We remain fully committed to working with partners, including Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Mozilla to maintain the security and compatibility of Flash content".

In addition, they plan to move more aggressively to EOL Flash in certain geographies where unlicensed and outdated versions of Flash Player are being distributed.

Take note of the date, December 31, 2020, for Adobe Flash Player's funeral.
