New TSA Guidelines Mandate Stricter Checks on Gaming Systems, eBooks”

To clear security at USA airports, fliers will soon have to place their laptops, tablets and e-readers in separate bins.

Now, though, the TSA is expanding its screening procedures, and will require devices larger than a cell phone to each be screened in their own separate bin, rather than remaining inside carry-on bags.

Today, the TSA announced strict new screening regulations for carry-on luggage that are sure to give frequent flyers a new spat of headaches.

The new screening procedures in standard lanes are already in place in 10 U.S. airports with plans to expand to all airports soon.

Moreover, the new domestic screening methods come days after the US Government Accountability Office said in a new report that the TSA "does not have valid evidence" supporting the bulk of its methods to identify behavioral threats to aviation security.

TSA recently imposed a ban on large electronics on flights from eight Muslim-majority countries, though later lifted the ban in favor of tighter restrictions for travelers to the US from 280 airports in 105 countries, USA Today reported.

The TSA piloted the program at 10 airports - none of which were in NY - earlier this year and made a decision to roll out the procedure nationwide.

The TSA says this allows for a better X-ray image.

Previously, people only needed to remove laptops, and only if they weren't in TSA-approved bags.

TSA is assigning officers to the front of X-ray machines to guide passengers through the new procedures.

The TSA noted in a press release, "Due to an increased threat to aviation security, DHS Secretary John Kelly announced in late June new security requirements for almost 280 airports in more than 100 countries".

The Transportation Security Agency said in a statement Wednesday the tighter requirements for carry-on screening are because of an increased threat to aviation security. Once approved, travelers can go through the TSA Precheck lines, and do not need to remove these electronics.
