The First Christmas from the Animals' Perspective in The Star Trailer

The First Christmas from the Animals' Perspective in The Star Trailer”

The 47-year-old singer revealed the first teaser trailer for Sony's new holiday movie, The Star, via Twitter on Wednesday.

Here is the official synopsis for The Star: "In Sony Pictures Animation's The Star, a small but courageous donkey named Bo yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill".

The animated film will humorously tell the nativity story and feature voice-overs from Oprah Winfrey, Kelly Clarkson, Tyler Perry, Tracy Morgan, and more. Mariah won't be voicing any of the characters, but her new single, also called "The Star", will be featured in the film.

The movie follows the story of a young donkey named Bo, voiced by Walking Dead star Steven Yeun, who ventures out with his animal friends to become the accidental heroes of the very first Christmas. The film will be hitting theaters in November though, so it is perhaps in danger of hitting the market a little too early to tap into the demand for Christian-themed entertainment around the winter holiday season. DeVon Franklin, Lisa Henson and Brian Henso will executive produce.

Directed by Timothy Reckart from Carlos Kotkin's script, the toon features a diverse, big-name voice cast that also includes Zachary Levi as Joseph and, in a rather meta bit of casting, Jane the Virgin's Gina Rodriguez as Mary.

The Star will open in US theaters on November 10. Check out the trailer above, and tell us what you think.
