US Pacific Fleet ready for nuclear war with China

US Pacific Fleet ready for nuclear war with China”

A senior United States military officer on Thursday revealed that the Pacific fleet is on standby mode and can launch nuclear strikes against China on President Donald Trump's call.

The commander also added that the military's shift in allegiance to a civilian control is a problematic prospect.

He was attending a major joint US- Australian military exercise off the Australian coast at the Australian National University security conference in Canberra.

Asked by an academic in the audience whether he would make a nuclear attack on China next week if Trump ordered it, Swift replied: 'The answer would be: Yes'.

Swift warned against shifting allegiance away from the commander-in-chief and abandoning civilian control of the American armed forces.

Shortly before the conference, the United States and Australia held military manoeuvres with a reconnaissance ship of the Chinese Navy was observing them.

Pacific Fleet spokesman Capt. Charlie Brown later clarified that Swift was responding to the principle, not the premise, of the question and was not actually suggesting the USA would strike China.

"The admiral was not addressing the premise of the question, he was addressing the principle of civilian authority of the military", Brown reportedly said.

'The premise of the question was ridiculous'.

Admiral Swift made the point to highlight the hypocrisy of the Chinese government's protests against the United States for their entry into China's exclusive economic zone, in regard to recent freedom of navigation missions through the South China Sea.

Earlier, CIA Director Mike Pompeo said that the USA considered China as a primary threat to the United States because of the stable economic and military growth of the country.
