Walmart Cancels SNES Classic Pre-Orders, Citing A 'Glitch'

Walmart Cancels SNES Classic Pre-Orders, Citing A 'Glitch'”

Sadly, those that pre-ordered the SNES Classic from Walmart last week might be unhappy.

Walmart's Deserie Dulaney's email states that while the company must "regrettably" cancel the orders, it has not charged anyone's credit cards, as is standard procedure.

As of now, there is no set date as to when Walmart will allow pre-orders again, Polygon reports.

The SNES Classic Edition is the next micro-console to come from Nintendo following the highly sought-after NES Classic Edition previous year, with the system to include 21 of the game's classic titles, and will also feature the never-before-released Star Fox 2. The chain is simply asking customers to keep checking back before the launch day of the console.

Last Friday, a lot of people felt a rush of relief when they locked down an SNES Classic pre-order through Walmart's website. The retailer has begun to cancel the premature pre-orders. The SNES Classics were released to soon. Among shoppers, demand for the NES Classic still remains high.

There will be times that SNES Classic bundles featuring toys and collectibles will be the only way to buy the SNES Classic, because of the anticipated shortage. The inventory was gone in about 10 minutes.

Target has confirmed over the weekend that the retailer will offer the SNES Classic for pre-order.

I've been seeing the letter pop up in various corners of social media, and have also confirmed the cancellation with several friends who managed to put in pre-orders of their own - including Mashable's own Kellen Beck. But perhaps Nintendo will make good on its increased production promises, and when orders launch in earnest, it won't be a bad buying experience.

Typing in my order number at Walmart.com pulls up a valid preorder, too.

The Super Nintendo Mini will be released in Australia starting September 30.
