Amid heavy Jordanian pressure، Israel announces probe into Amman embassy attack”

The Jordanian justice has charged with murder the Israeli guard who killed two Jordanians at a residence in the Israeli diplomatic mission in Amman, as Jordan asked Israel to honor justice by trying the killer. Ziv and the Israeli staff at the embassy left Jordan Monday.

Israel's foreign ministry late Friday said it had launched a "verification procedure" into the shooting.

"The [Israeli] state prosecutor [Shai Nitzan]، in coordination with the attorney general [Avichai Mandelblit]، has instructed all the relevant bodies to submit all related materials they possess،" read the statement.

"Israel will inform Jordan of developments and information gathered during this procedure", the spokesman said, without providing further details.

Jordan is the official custodian of Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem.

The incident lead to Israel demanding Jordan respect the diplomatic immunity of diplomatic mission staff and Jordan demanding the Jordanian police be allowed into the Israeli embassy to look into the matter.

Hundreds of Jordanians hold a protest this afternoon near the Israeli embassy in Amman, calling on the government to shut it down, expel the ambassador and cancel the 1994 peace treaty with Israel.

Israel maintained the guard had diplomatic immunity.

Only after USA intervention did Amman relent، allowing the guard and the rest of the embassy staff to leave Jordan.

Israel's prime minister welcomed the guard like a hero, suggesting a trial is unlikely.

King Abdullah Thursday lambasted Netanyahu's photo called on Israel to try the killer.

The monarch threatened the affair would have a negative affect on bilateral ties between Amman and Jerusalem.

Jordanian authorities have said the guard opened fire Sunday after a 16-year-old attacked him with a screw driver during a furniture delivery to the embassy.
