Coroner releases preliminary autopsy for teen killed at Ohio State Fair”

Before the fair opens, each of the 50 or so rides will undergo a lengthy inspection, and what happened at the Ohio State Fair will be top of mind for state inspectors.

Over at the Monmouth County Fair in Freehold, a ride similar to the ride that malfunctioned in OH was immediately taken out of service even though it passed inspection, until officials in OH figured out what went wrong.

Dramatic video captured by a bystander shows the ride swinging back and forth like a pendulum and spinning in the air when it crashes into something and part of the ride flies off, throwing riders to the ground.

Officials said the Fireball ride will not be operating at the Indiana State Fair when it opens next week, while Kentucky State Fair officials said they scrapped plans to include the Fireball ride at this year's event in August. "When it was time to go, they wanted to ride it one more time", Brian Best, who is a teacher at Martins Ferry Middle School, said of his children.

Governor John Kasich ordered all rides at the state fair to be shut down after a catastrophic ride malfunction Wednesday evening killed one and injured seven others.

"My oldest son said afterward that he noticed them welding one of the rides".

Tyler Jarrell, 18, of Columbus, Ohio, was identified by the Ohio State Highway Patrol as the person killed in the accident. Tyler Jarrell is the first senior from Franklin Heights high school to enlist into the United States Marine Corps this year. In Ohio, the Department of Agriculture conducts such checks, including the ones at the state fair. All other rides were given another inspection to ensure their safety. "She says it's kind of disrespectful for the people who were in the accident on the Fire Ball". None has had a serious malfunction before, it said. Ride operators at the Fulton County Fair shared various safety protocols for their rides.

It said there have been at least 22 fatalities associated with amusement attractions since 2010.

But those who are injured are among millions of people who visit carnivals, fairs and festivals each year, according to the Outdoor Amusement Business Association, and the fatality figure pales in comparison to the number of traffic-related deaths, leading some to say it's far more risky to drive to the fair than to ride a fair ride.

"Our hearts are heavy for the families of those involved in last night's tragic accident", fair officials said on Twitter.
