Moscow has already responded, ordering a reduction in the number of U.S. diplomats in Russian Federation and closing the U.S. Embassy's recreation retreat.

Russia's tit-for-tat decision to expel hundreds of United States diplomats and seize two USA compounds may be an acknowledgment in Moscow that Trump's ability to bring better ties is limited, at best, and the start of a new downward spiral in relations.

In response to the bill, Russian Federation announced that it was expelling American diplomats and seizing property, reports CNN. However, Putin at that point took a magnanimous tone, saying they could stay and that he would await Trump's inauguration before taking further action. But attempts like this to make Trump sound tough on Russian Federation are unconvincing. Friday's exchange over United States diplomats in Russia is "not the last thing the Russians are going to do and it's not the last thing we're going to do". She didn't specify the "critical elements", and lawmakers have said the White House was largely absent as they crafted the legislation.

"Our stance remains that we will not accept any extraterritorial use whatsoever of these United States sanctions against European companies. Policy sanctions are neither a suitable nor an adequate instrument for the promotion of national export interests and the domestic energy sector".
