Ex-Arsenal Striker: Sell 'Sick' Sanchez For £60m

Ex-Arsenal Striker: Sell 'Sick' Sanchez For £60m”

Arsene Wenger has reiterated his determination to hold onto Alexis Sanchez and slammed claims the unsettled Arsenal star's dose of the flu was part of his plan to engineer a transfer.

No deal has been done, though, and Upson believes that could be because Sanchez has offered Arsenal hope that a compromise could be reached regarding his future.

With Sanchez entering the last year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium, clubs including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have been linked with a move for the 28-year-old.

Speculation that Sanchez was avoiding returning to Arsenal was rife after he posted a picture to Instagram on Friday morning. "It happens time and time again at Arsenal".

But Gunners boss Wenger, speaking after his side's 5-2 thrashing of Benfica in the Emirates Cup on Saturday, made it clear Sanchez will not be sold. He's staying, of course.

Asked how he read Sanchez's delayed arrival, Wenger refused to criticise his player.

"I can't reveal to you what he says, I cannot reveal what is a secret conversation. We are in touch with him and his doctor", he said. Your job is built on mistrust and mine is built on trust.

"There's no problem except he won't come back tomorrow, he'll be back on Tuesday". He's flying back as soon as he's in a position to fly back - he has the flu.

"It's not the same". For a manager it's a bit different because it concerns more what is the future of the club.

"What the owners would think about keeping a player you could get £60 million for and then letting him go for nothing in 12 months' time, I don't know".

Furthermore, Sanchez would be free to talk to European clubs come January should his contract situation remain the same and given his importance to Arsenal last season - 24 goals and 10 assists - he would prove a hard player to replace.

"Kolasinac has gone from strength to strength in pre-season", Wenger said.

"We don't speak about how the negotiations go", he said when asked about the France global.

'We are going to see if we can buy somebody else, ' said Guardiola.

"We are active in the transfer market in general".
