Pittsburgh Pirates Acquire Sean Rodriguez from Braves for Connor Joe

Pittsburgh Pirates Acquire Sean Rodriguez from Braves for Connor Joe”

MLB.com's Mark Bowman reported Saturday that the Atlanta Braves traded utility man Sean Rodriguez to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a catching prospect.

Rodriguez played for the Pirates in 2015 and 2016, and last season was the best of his 10-year Major League Baseball career. He underwent rotator-cuff surgery earlier this year after he and his family were involved in a serious vehicle accident involving a stolen police auto in Florida.

Sean Rodriguez played just 15 games in a Braves uniform after missing most of the season following a preseason auto accident involving his wife and two sons that required shoulder surgery. In that time, he slashed.162/.326/.351 with two homers and three RBI in 47 plate appearances. He is also signed through next season, so this move could not only help with the current Pirates team but could give them a stronger bench in 2018 as well. The Braves previously moved Brandon Phillips to third base, Freddie Freeman back to first and Matt Adams to left field - for now - in order to play the two promising prospects. Joe was the 39th pick in the 2014 MLB Draft.
