Trump backs plan to curb legal immigration”

President Donald Trump is showing support over a proposal that will cut legal immigration in half within the next ten years. The plan would limit American citizens' ability to bring family members into the country. If U.S. companies can not access the workers they need to grow and thrive in the United States, they will turn to other options, such as expanding operations outside the United States.

President Trump last week dusted off campaign rhetoric to endorse a Senate plan that would radically reduce legal immigration over 10 years. "This to me is just rhetoric, just politics to make Donald Trump look good", said Pastor Emma Lozano, an immigration rights activist. A 2015 Migration Policy Institute report found that 45% of United States immigrants self-identified as Latinx or Hispanic.

"The reforms in the RAISE Act will help ensure that newcomers to our wonderful country will be assimilated, will succeed and will achieve the American dream", Trump said Wednesday. David Perdue and Tom Cotton. "That's not what America stands for".

Under the new bill, the United States would prioritise high-skilled immigrants by setting up a merits-based system similar to those used by Canada and Australia.

"No, no, no, we want people coming in legally", he told the Economist in May.

But they would only be allowed to stay for a maximum of 10 years, not permanently as now allowed by the Immigration and Nationality Act. The biggest cuts would be to those with family ties whereas those granted residency based on job skills would remain about the same. She says we are a nation of immigrants, we always have been a nation of immigrants and we will always be a nation of immigrants.

However, minor children and spouses would still be able to apply.

The bill would eliminate ALL family-based legal immigration categories except for spouses and children (under the age of 18) of USA citizens and permanent residents.

About 15 percent of immigrants are admitted for employment-based reasons.

The measure would cap the number of accepted refugees at 50,000, half of the target assigned by the administration of former President Barack Obama for 2017.

"What we're introducing today is modelled on the current Canadian and Australian systems". Trump said that our current immigration system "has not been fair to our people, to our citizens, to our workers".

But the president said it is time that America yank the welcome mat for immigrants who hurt American workers and are a drain on community resources.

And restricting the number of people that can enter the American labor force?
