30 civilians killed in US-led airstrikes in north Syria”

At least 30 civilians were killed over the past 24 hours in Syria's northern city of Raqqa in the intensified USA -led airstrikes on the Islamic State (IS) positions, a monitor group said Tuesday. It said 14 of the dead were members of one family, adding the toll could rise because of the number of critically wounded.

Over the course of the United States military operations in Iraq and Syria as part of the ISIS War, a massive number of civilians have been killed, though the official U.S. figures recognize only a tiny fraction of that, with large portions of the incidents dismissed as "not credible".

The US and its allies launched a campaign of airstrikes against what are said to be Daesh positions inside Iraq in August 2014 after the Takfiri terrorist group overran parts of the Arab country. U.S. and Russian-backed forces have killed at least 19,663 civilians in Syria and Iraq between August 2014 and July 2017, monitoring group Airwars estimates.

Back in June, UN war crimes investigators denounced a "staggering loss of civilian life" caused by the US-led attacks on Raqqah, Daesh's de facto capital in Syria.

USA and Russian-backed forces have killed at least 19,663 non-combatant civilians in Syria and Iraq between August 2014 and July 2017, monitoring group Airwars estimates.

Captured by the jihadists in 2014, Raqa became a symbol of atrocities by IS in its self-declared "caliphate".

The US-backed alliance of Syrian groups began a campaign to capture the city a year ago, slowly encircling the city before breaking into it for the first time in June.

The United States has been heavily backing the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in their push to capture Raqqa from the IS, enabling the SDF to capture 55 percent of Raqqa city following a two-month battle.

The jihadist group has responded with a barrage of vehicle bombs, suicide bombers, weaponised drones and snipers.

More than 330,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began with anti-government protests in March 2011.
