Leinster will play first PRO 14 game in South Africa

Leinster will play first PRO 14 game in South Africa”

All four Welsh regions will be at home on the opening weekend of the Guinness PRO14 after the fixtures for the newly expanded competition were confirmed.

In the second round of fixtures the Cheetahs complete their opening mini-tour against Munster at Thomond Park on September 9th (5.15ko), while fellow newcomers the Southern Kings take on Connacht in Galway later that evening (7.35ko).

Ulster will take on South African side the Cheetahs on the opening Friday of the revamped Pro 14.

"With all the exciting news that has surrounded the unveiling of the GUINNESS PRO14, we know the fans have been eager to see the fixture list, but hopefully the wait has been worthwhile as we believe these fixtures will further enhance the excitement across each of the Championship's five territories". The aggregate score from those two clashes will see who wins the 1872 Cup while they play again in April in Edinburgh.

They will be staying in South Africa for the week as their next match will also be in the country.

Round three will see Ulster at home to champions the Scarlets on 15 September. They face Bernard Jackman's Dragons on September 2nd.

The GUINNESS PRO12 featured 295 internationals during the 2016/17 campaign, and for the forthcoming Championship season, organisers of the PRO14 have worked closely with each of the Unions to ensure that where possible derby games do not clash with worldwide call-ups.

Munster's first Interprovincial derby is a repeat of previous year with Leinster at the Aviva on Saturday, October 7 at 2pm for round 6. There will be further derbies for the Irish provinces in Rounds 11 and 12.

The regular season will conclude with a full round of derbies before the knockout stages begin. With quarter-finals it opens it up for more teams and once you're in that quarter-final or semi-final, anything can happen.

2017/18 GUINNESS PRO14 fixtures can be found here.
