AIADMK sacks Sasikala's nephew, Dhinakaran as deputy general secretary

AIADMK sacks Sasikala's nephew, Dhinakaran as deputy general secretary”

Referring to reports of the imminent merger of the two factions, the AIADMK leader said: "First the ruling faction under Palaniswami should call a meeting of the party's general council to dismiss Sasikala/Dinakaran family from the party".

A resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of the party office-bearers, held at the AIADMK Headquarters inthe city.

"If these two basic demands are not met with before the unification, then it will be a matter of time for us to be treated like "curry leaves" (use and throw) in the ruling party", he said.

Dinakaran was named the deputy general secretary by his aunt Sasikala, who is now lodged in a Bengaluru prison after being convicted in the disproportionate assets case. "His reinduction into the party on February 14 and his appointment as deputy general secretary the following day were in violation of party bylaw 30 (V)".

Speaking to reporters finance minister D. Jayakumar hoped that the present move will soon lead to the merger, since OPS had made the total sidelining of the Sasikala family as a precondition for merger.

The meeting passed a resolution to sack TTV Dhinakaran from the post of deputy general secretary and party membership.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami not only removed Dinakaran through a resolution but has also invalidated all appointments made by Dinakaran, media reported.

He was admitted by Sasikala on February 15, the day she surrendered in the Bengaluru court in connection with the corruption case, and on the same day he was made party deputy general secretary.

According to sources close to the two factions, Dinakaran's action has probably accelerated the merger move between Palaniswamy group and the faction led by former chief minister O Panneerselvam.

If the proposal gets a go-ahead from the senior leaders of the two factions, Palaniswamy is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister, after finalizing the agreement, would go to Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.

The major development is that O Panneerselvam will not be the general secretary of the party, but will lead the committee that would take care of the party and coordinate with the government.

The sources said that OPS may leave for Delhi on Saturday.
