Deadpool director to helm cyberpunk Neuromancer adaptation”

Efforts have been on-going for years to bring Neuromancer and its complex story to the big screen, and now Fox has settled on Tim Miller as the man to direct their adaptation with Simon Kinberg producing, as reported by Deadline.

Deadpool director Tim Miller left the sequel due to creative differences back in October of a year ago.

The novel was written by cyberpunk pioneer William Gibson, and it launched his Sprawl trilogy.

Neuromancer has been adapted into a video game, a graphic novel, a radio play, and audiobook and even an opera. Gibson's novel tells the story of a computer hacker named Henry Dorsett Case, who is caught stealing from his employer and punished by having toxins damage his nervous system, rendering him unemployable. The target: an unthinkably powerful artificial intelligence orbiting Earth in service of the sinister Tessier-Ashpool business clan.

Miller is now busy on a new instalment in the Terminator franchise, with James Cameron serving in an advisory capacity, after dropping out of Deadpool 2 due to creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds. The employer fixes Case's damaged brain, but implants a slow dissolving poison to make sure the cyberspace wiz does his bidding, in attempting to abduct a perverse psychopath who is able to create holograms with the force of his mind. Neuromancer has always been a target for adaptation, but has never made it before cameras: Torque director Joseph Kahn was in line to direct in 2007, while Cube and Splice director Vincenzo Natali was later attached to the project.

Neuromancer doesn't have a release date set yet, but we'll keep you updated with more info as soon as we hear it.
