Review board splits on fatal police shooting”

The Board heard testimonies throughout the week as they reviewed the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police's decision to clear officer Bradley Vinson of any wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of Scott.

Board members left the session without commenting.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have said the shooting by Officer Brentley Vinson, who is black, was justified.

Officer Brentley Vinson killed Scott outside a University City apartment complex in September, sparking days of protests and dozens of arrests in the city.

The board is reviewing the police department's internal investigation and procedures. In late June, the board said it found a potential error in the department's decision, leading to Tuesday's hearing. A woman held a sign that said "Police Accountability Now".

A citizens review board won't ask a North Carolina police department to reverse its decision that an officer was justified in shooting a black man in the state's largest city. The Board heard testimonies from both sides, CMPD as well as attorneys representing the Scott family. Scott's shooting last September provoked days of civil unrest.

Mecklenburg County District Attorney Andrew Murray has said no charges would be filed.

The Board arrived 9 a.m. Thursday morning and deliberated until they announced they were split on the final decision.
