Elderly man stuck in elevator for almost a month found dead”

Almost a month later, his decomposing body was found in an inoperable elevator at the Woodstream Village apartments in Denver after tenants complained to management about an very bad smell coming from a parking garage area that was under renovation, CNN affiliate KMGH reported.

The decomposed remains of Isaak Komisarchik were discovered inside a parking garage lift by elevator fix workers on Aug 2 after nearby residents complained about the bad stench, according to The Denver Post.

Isaak Komisarchik, 82, had early-onset dementia and was last seen July 5.

First reported by the Denver Post, Denver Fire officials say they've learned Komisarchik pressed an emergency button in the elevator twice on July 6 before he died. The elevator cab where he was found is located in a parking garage that is under renovation construction and not now in active use.

During an interview with 9 News, the 82-year-old man's daughter, identified only as Yelena, said the last time she saw her dad he was wearing pajama trousers and a striped shirt on the fifth of July.

"The monitoring agency has the same mandate [as one-site security] and has to make a determination - if it's something that can be handled in-house or to notify the emergency services through our 911 system or to circumvent the 911 system with a call notification", Pixley said.

Yelena went on to say her father walked to check his mailbox and then into the Woodstream Village apartment complex office, and then just seemed to disappear.

'He could've gotten disoriented at times, ' she said. He was reported missing, and Denver Police made a concerted effort with Komisarchik's family to locate him. Elevator maintenance workers had just found Komisarchik's body inside the vehicle, Pixley told the Post.

The fire department said they didn't receive any emergency calls from that particular elevator vehicle during the period of time Komisarchik was in it.

'Something is not right, ' Pixley said.

A DailyMail.com request for comment to MEI was not immediately returned. The company said they are now investigating the incident with local authorities.

Police told Denver 7 ABC that MEI had contacted Woodstream's management after receiving the help calls from the elevator, but that Woodstream workers only checked the two elevators in the apartment building and did not check the parking garage elevator, which was being renovated.

Numerous Woodstream residents complained to managers of a strong odor emanating from the garage area but nothing was done. "How he got in there and when he got in there is obviously what we're trying to figure out", police spokesman John White says.
