Gamevice files lawsuit against Nintendo Switch

Gamevice files lawsuit against Nintendo Switch”

These devices, some of which are made by American accessory manufacturer Gamevice, have been floating around for over half a decade now.

Gamevice is suing Nintendo for allegedly infringing the patents used in its Android gaming tablet the Wikipad, and its add-on controllers for phones and tablets, Engadget reported.

The short version of the lawsuit: Gamevice believes it was first to come up with the idea of a tablet-style device which could be connected to optional controllers resting on either side of the screen.

Clearly the two devices do look alike, although these sorts of lawsuits rarely go anywhere. A tablet/mobile device slides into the device to allow you to play mobile games with traditional console controls.

However, given that Nintendo seems to be equally diligent about filing patents for its various devices, Gamevice may find it has a hard road ahead.

"Nintendo's infringement has caused, and is continuing to cause, damage and irreparable injury to Gamevice, and Gamevice will continue to suffer damage and irreparable injury unless and until that infringement is enjoined by this court", said the complaint.

The case is obviously going to develop further in the future, and we'll keep you updated on everything that happens - regardless of which company comes out victorious.
