Google celebrates history of hip hop with doodle that lets you DJ”

The doodle takes you back to the day in 1973 where DJ Kool Herc is credited with creating hip hop.

In the dingy spaces of Bronx, one of the five boroughs of NY, one fine day, Clive Campbell was playing music in a "Back to School" party at 1520, Sedgwick Avenue to a crowd of teenagers.

He noticed the crowd went wild whenever he played an instrumental section, instead of the whole song.

During these "breaks" his friend Coke La Rock hyped up the crowd with a microphone - and with that, hip hop was born.

He moved to the Bronx, New York when he was 12.

Hip-hop is more than just a music genre; it spurred a cultural revolution and today's Google Doodle goes some way to celebrating the impact it has had over the past four decades.

"Often interspersed with a 'Boom" and a "Bap", the point of hip hop was to veer away from the psychedelic, sparkly disco to the hard hitting and resilient hip hop which was trying to reach out to its distant cousin, blues.

The internet giant has launched a new one on their homepage today, which honors the 44th anniversary of Hip-Hop.

Unlike DJs that followed his lead with hip hop, in his early years he never made the move into commercially recorded music.

"Hip-hop was accessible", said Cohen. The August 11 Google Doodle is the most elaborate we have seen so far coming out of Google.

If you want to know how to be a DJ on Google, you will have to click the play button. You can choose samples of classic songs from artists like George Clinton, The Isley Brothers and Billy Squire, and mix them by switching the slider left or right.

Experience the excellent doodle on google now!

You can scroll through these records on the right-hand side of the record box and select a track by clicking the record.

There is a gamification feature that lets you unlock achievements for completing various actions with the turntables.
