Morata: I've played 15 minutes and already they're killing me

Morata: I've played 15 minutes and already they're killing me”

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata says he's motivated to prove the critics wrong who are "killing him" after making his debut for the club.

Asked about the huge transfer fee, the striker told Spanish daily Marca: "I admit it's a huge amount but I have the personality to play quietly and go about my business".

Antonio Conte has already insisted that he wants to see Morata improve his fitness and the Spaniard played just two pre-season games before coming on as a substitute against Arsenal in the Community Shield last Sunday.

"It's the price you have to pay for such a big transfer". It's something that motivates me and makes me work harder every day. "I know that double the people are watching me now".

The striker swapped Real Madrid for the Stamford Bridge side after a summer of interest in him, with Manchester United also pursuing a deal for the Spain worldwide.

Although Diego Costa is still technically a Chelsea player for now, Morata has arrived to replace his unsettled worldwide colleague and some view it as a risk for the club.

"Actually, at first, I did not know that I was so interested in signing myself, but when I found out, I did not hesitate and it was my preference".

He said: "I knew Conte loved me and I had talked to him many times". I need to understand Conte well, he demands the opposite to what my past coaches asked of me. In a way, I felt indebted to him because I signed for Juventus and he had to go. I will play in different positions, with diverse tactical plays.

"But it does not obsess me either in the sense that I change it by collective titles".

"I have to adapt to the team system, which is like an Italian one because of the coach".

"I hope I can score more than 20 goals". I don't think I have to adapt to the Premier League but rather to my new coach. "I've scored 15 or 16 goals and I've lifted titles and other strikers have scored 35 and haven't won anything".

He added: "I left because I want to succeed in football, I want to do great things, and I'm in the best place to do it".
